Mini dental implants provide all the benefits of dental implants in a smaller package. As holistic dentists, we are naturally fans of any procedure that minimizes the impact on the body and mind, which is why we’re also fans of mini dental implants.
In an effort to increase understanding of mini dental implants, the possibilities they offer and the benefits they bring, we’re going to discuss the pros and cons of them today. We want you to be fully informed of your options and be fully aware of what’s involved in the procedure.
We believe everyone makes better decisions when in full ownership of the facts. So here they are.
Advantages of Mini Dental Implants
Mini dental implants are easier to manufacture than their full-sized counterparts, meaning they are often less costly too. The titanium screw is smaller also contributing to a lower cost.
These implants can also often be fit and loaded with a single visit, also lowering the cost. Loading is where we fit the teeth to the titanium screw, meaning you could potentially walk out of our dentist’s office with that dazzling smile after only a single visit.
The other main advantage of mini dental implants is that of discomfort. Patients attribute much more comfort when having this type of implant fitted compared to standard implants. While it cannot be quantified, there is enough anecdotal evidence to support this assertion.
Disadvantages of Mini Dental Implants
There are always disadvantages to dental treatments and mini dental implants are no different. If there has been significant bone loss for any reason, mini dental implants probably won’t be suitable as there isn’t enough purchase for the screw.
Some people who have larger sinuses may also have difficulties fitting mini dental implants. The sinuses can protrude too far into the mouth, preventing safe fitting.
Mini dental implants also have to be fitted in groups to have maximum benefit. Fitting only one or two teeth cannot be supported as effectively, meaning you would need to have multiple teeth replaced to make them worthwhile.
Finally, if you grind your teeth, mini dental implants may not be suitable as they would wear too quickly. Standard implants or other treatment may make it possible to fit them later, but the grinding would have to be completely eradicated before that time.
Mini dental implants are an excellent treatment for all kinds of dental problems. If you’re considering them as a treatment, contact Aesthetic Family Dentistry for a consultation. You’re in safe hands with us!
